My son has an older Diesel and the bl**dy thing takes ages to start. When it does start it exudes enough foul smelling smoke to reak havoc with the atmosphere.
Does anyone what I can do with it? Someone told me to change the glow plugs...is that easy to do? Please help!
You'll need to get a new set of glow plugs put in -fairly easy to do and while you're at it - get the electrical supply to them checked to make sure its ok - if the car has a lot of miles - it may be a good idea to get the compressions in the cylinders checked as poor compression will make it harder to start.
If its worth the money.
i changed the glow plugs on my 405td and it didn.t make much difference to the smokiness (we could have a competituion to see whose got the smokiest diesel!) , it will help for starting it , but with older diesels you need to let the glow plug light go out 3 times, and they are inherently smokey -so he will have to live with it , to cure the smokeiness does not ecomoical sense on an old diesel as it will cost too much
