My wifes laptop was dropped resulting in the catch which holds the telephone cable clip being bust. I am told this cannot be fixed since the catch is part of the case. I cannot now find a way to hold the cable firmly in the connecting port....I am currently taping it to the case. Has anybody any ideas so it can be fixed more firmly?????
The clip on the back of the plug actually serves two purposes, as not only does it hook into the notch to stop the plug falling out, but it also supplies pressure to keep the plug firmly against the contacts (which are on the opposite side). If she doesn't mind having the cable permanently attached, you could do the following:
Break off the spring clip from the back of the plug,
Insert the plug
Experiment with different thicknesses of paper or card wedged behind the plug until you're ceratin that you have a good connection.
Apply a dob of superglue to keep it all in place
Thanks rojash, sorry for late response...its christmas thats done it. I have done part of what you suggest, jamming the clip in with part of a matchstick. Works, but was hoping for a really technical idea! There is another phone port on the other side of the laptop, which does not work when the phone jack is inserted in it. So, what is this for? Could the machine be adapted so that this port could be used?
