It will connect to your pc if that has infra red too., so you can download ringtones, screensavers and that sort of thing.

My laptop has infra red, and my phone doesn't.

you can also connect two phones via infrared but bluetooth is far quicker, however if i am not wrong you can transfer bigger files via infrared.
