Hi Gardener,
The Astrantia, you mention, common name (mastwort) is classed as a 'Border Perenial'
The main stem will die down to ground level each year but the root's will stay alive and begin to grow again in the spring and should be flowering in june and july, afterwhich the cycle will start over again. Good Luck Tbird+
