chronic shoulder pains?
5 Answers
not sure whether its the right category and i know medical advice is not really supposed to offerred but, just wondered, my other half has over the last 3 weeks had such bad pain in the top of his arm, even reaching out has been painful, now......... i dont do that 'sympathy' thing but its gettin on my nerves so, i think a visit to the doctors is a waste of time as you cant actually SEE anything, do ya think he should go and see a physio or something similar? he thinks ive booted him in his sleep (huh i wish) or slept badly, but surely that would go after a day or so? any advice appreciated otherwise i'll be tempted to kick him in the ribs and really give him something to moan about heheheh (joking ............not) xx

What kind of pain is it, muscular, joint pain etc...? has he lost any feeling or got any swelling?
When you say pain in his upper arm, best to check it's not relatated to anything heartbased to be on the safe side. Has he had any chest pain, nausea or shortness of breath? If this is the case get him seen urgently. Sometimes arm pain can be the only noticeable symptom of a heart attack.
It could also be muscle fatigue, even a fracture such as a stress fracture which can often go undetected for a while. If it's in the biceps region it could be damage to a tendon.
Let us know how he gets on :) x

My mum has suffered very badly for the last two weeks with bad pain in her right shoulder/top of arm and sometimes it has been down to her elbow - her doctor told her she has a trapped nerve in her neck and is now on anti-inflammatories and paracetamol and doctor is organising physio for her.
Good luck to your other half! Hope he's ok soon.

Send him to the docs curly.
My husband has had a simiar thing since before Christmas - he got on my last nerve saying 'it hurts when I do this' and then raising his arm in a ridiculous position over his head - don't do it then I told him a million times. Eventually the hyperchondriac went to the GP and he has been referred to the local hospital for physiotherapy (I should feel guilty but he can be a real pain in the ar*e!)
Good luck to him (and also he'll stop going on about it to you!!)

wow thanks for all the advice! think maybe i wasnt taking too much notice before .... but you know what men are like - wimps at the best of times, i was thinking to myself along the lines of trapped nerve,or frozen shoulder etc, so...........i'm gonna ring the doctor now, and maybe he will get some sort of referral (sometime this year fingers crossed) Cheers again, will let you know, cos cant be doing with this whinging much longer, hehehhe (you'll have guessed by now that i wasnt Florence Nightingale in a former life! : )
dear curlyperm,
a visit to the doc will generally result with a course of anti-inflamatory tablets, horrid things ,that just might ease it.
,next will come cortisone jabs that are short term relief.
my wife was like your other half and following advice from a medic friend paid to see a good well qualified physio who wasnt expensive.
after only a few visits she was loads better and he gave her after care advise, exercises etc.
you can go to the nhs but round our area its months waiting
no fun if your in pain. check out your local physios.
good luck
