No p45 from last employer and slanderours remarks!

Please help, my last employer took it extremely personally when I left her company, I had accommodated her in every way I could, I worked bloody hard and she would occassionally give me a bonus to thank me. She was a total control freak and bully though and always used to remind me not to get on the wrong side of her, I saw her first hand write bad references for people and tell lies! Since deciding to leave the company (there were only two partners there), I did not work notice as I was so petrified of how she would treat me, the other partner had been aware of the situation and knew I was leaving and agreed with me, telling me how uncomfortable it would be to work notice and to go! However since then (3 months ago), they have assured me my p45 was sent (I know she would have destroyed it) and I have bumped into a couple of contacts who have advised me they are telling some lies and ruining my reputation, I do not live in a huge area and word gets around in sales industries! I do not want to pursue an employment tribunal case, as I have too much stuff in my life to cope with already, but apart from turning up at the office and having a blazing row (which I know is not a professional thing to do) I have no idea how to put an end to this womans evil lies! Please help and thank you in advance for any suggestions!

It will only be a matter of filling in a form and tax offices are quite used to dealing with this circumstance.
As for the other, there seems to be little you can do without going to a tribunal, and for that you will need some evidence that this woman is spreading lies about you. In short, you need a fairly concrete case.
I'd suggest you let it ride, especially if you have another job (you don't say whether you do). Sooner or later she's going to be shown up for what she is and the only one whose reputation's going to be ruined is her. You will come out the better for being the one who maintains her own integrity.

Right, don't panic about the P45, your next employer will give you a P46 form to fill in, to say that your new job is your only / main job, then they send that to the tax office. you will get taxed on an emergency code until it is sorted out, but it doesn't mean you can't work.
As it is 3 months since you walked out, you should now have not worked for enough time to sign on (contributions based) if you do this they will sort it out for you in a similar way and then when you get a job you will get a P45U to hand in to your next employer - always worth signing on for the NI credits etc as you never know when you will need to fall back on them!!!
