08 numbers are tricky.

All 0800 numbers are free.

0845 are charged at local rate

0870 are national rate.

Everything else is premium.

BUT some mobile phones charge 0870 numbers at premium rates, and Skype is expensive for all 08 numbers.

I use this site to find the geographical number as I only use Skype:

http://www.saynoto0870.com/
0808 are freephone too.
I'm charged by T-mobile for any 0800 numbers, which makes no sense to me at all.
Why not corby? 0800 numbers are guaranteed free to BT users only.

Other networks charge differently.

I regularly use skype to call toll free numbers and it is free.
Other 08 numbers' charges vary:

0844 - 7.7p
0845 - 8.4p
0870 - 11.8p
0871 - 14.8p
All inc. VAT (information correct on 02/01/2007 available at skype.com)

If you phone an 08 number from a mobile and have any allowance minutes left use the following numbers to call:
07744 5 888 33
07744 9 888 00
THIS WILL LET YOU CALL FOR FREE AS LONG AS YOU HAVE ALLOWANCE LEFT. (I have not tried it after I have used my allowance, therefore I do not know the rates for those calls).

Once the recorded message message can be heard dial the destination number and wait. THIS ALSO ALLOWS YOU TO CALL INTERNATIONAL FIXED LINES FOR FREE!

0845 numbers are free anytime (provided your allowance covers that)
0870 numbers - weekends only.

Check with your provider if in doubt:

O2 : 0870 241 02 02

Virgin Mobile - 789 from your mobile or 0845 6000 789.

Vodafone : 191 from your mobile or 08700 700 191.

Orange - 150 from your mobile or 07973 100 150.

T-Mobile - 150 from your mobile or 0845 412 5000.

(Not available for: "3", Singlepoint)

Mind that I use T-Mobile. Other networks might charge you for phone calls to 07744 or similar numbers (as I know O2 do).

I hope this helps,
Regards,
