It is reckoned that a Tiger tank was the equal of up to 5 Sherman tanks (the main Allied battle tank) - but this didn't matter, because in most theatres, the Allies were far more likely to HAVE 5 Shermans than the Germans to have 1 Tiger. It was even worse on the Eastern front, because the Russian T34 (and KV1) were generally superior AND more numerous.
The T-34 and IS-2 were both great Soviet tanks. The T-34 was very fast and with its 76mm & especially 85mm cannon it was more than a match for the German Panzer.
The British/US also had a 76mm version of the Sherman which again was very powerful versus the German tanks.
The German's did have the Panther (75mm), Tiger I (88mm) and Tiger II (88mm). The Tiger I was perhaps their best tank; the Tiger II being more superior but lack of fuel and reliability issues made this tank virtually useless.
