on call duties

my son works at the local supermarket.They are protected by a security firm when the stpore is closed but everytime an alarm is triggered, my son is called out. should he get paid for this.

Yes. He should be on a special call-out rate. This should be in his contract. Also he should have training and experience to cope if one time he enters the store and thieves or vandals are still there. Repeated false alarms will not usually be attended by the police. Is he alerted by his boss or the security firm?

He is alerted by the security firm as he is the nearest keyholder,but the security firm can get in without him.

It depends on what his contract says and at what point he became a key holder. We have people who agree to be a key holder and it is written in their contracts. They are paid double time for attending. No-one should ever enter a building alone and wherever possible should await the arrival of the Police.

The security firm we use have keys to the building so the only time they will need to call a member of staff is to attend a broken window or door.

I used to be on callo-out for a supermarket chain when I worked there a few years back. I was paid �25 call out fee plus double time while I was there.
I never got called out for security issues, but quite often for freezer alarms, when the fridge/freezer had broken down or the door had been left open or the sensor was just malfunctioning.
