Why is the forces accommodation so badly maintained?

Is it because the Iraq and Afghan adventures have used up the defence budget?
Is it because the priority is to rundown our military capability, sell off our bases for private housing, and concentrate on high tech warfare?
Is the money being diverted to pay for the new trident missile system?
Is it just lack of respect for our decent hard working soldiers?
Or What?

I'm sure the defence department is run by 2 separate heads each trying to stamp their own policy. Coupled with the Chancellor's tight rein on spending it is leading to a fiasco.
Today there is talk of cancelling 6 warships which on current engagements will lead to overstretch. On the eve of the Iraq war we were still trying to obtain battlefield equipment. A soldier died because he had to give up his body armour.
We are not and should not try to be a major world power. We should not take overseas commitments lightly! When Blair goes maybe some sense can come out of it!

Your quite right Joe some people in government act as though we still had an Empire. This Labour lot have seen money drain through their fingers. All that wealth creation and money poured into the NHS has been frittered away. Before they dish out money to departments there should be a strict audit check on where it is to be spent. I believe the majority went on paying higher salaries to consultants with shorter working hours.

Illegal immigrants get better accommodation than our underpaid troops.
In my town asylum seekers have been known to complain because the cutlery in their rent free accomodation did not match. Another complained because his bed was too near to the radiator, making sleeping difficult.
Only a few weeks ago did not some failed asylum seekers wreck their accomodation because it was not up to standard?
When are we going to wake up and demand better for own people?

they'd be better housed by swaping places with the inmates acording to some t.v. footage! it's an incredible disgrace, words just fail.

Gordon Brown has promised to reduce our armed personnel when he gets in so that should help slightly. Gord help us if Germany says it no longer wants our 30,000 troops stationed there and they have to come home.
