I've seen it used in Bernard Cornwall's Arthurian trilogy. From what I recall, she was the narrator's wife.
Yes, I used to work with a Ceinwen - sort of a female Chris Martin - floppy and wet.

It's Anglo-Saxon, from 'cyne', meaning 'royal' and 'wynn', meaning 'joy'.

By coincidence, I've been doing a little research into AS names for a project I'm working on, which is why I opened this thread. My limited knowledge doesn't immediately bring forth anyone particularly well-known of that name, but I daresay an Anglo-Saxon expert could throw more light on that.
I think she was the 'lady of the Lake' in Athurian legends, I also seem to remember reading something about her in the Celtic Myths and Legends, Wesh I believe, but I've found this for you, rather good I thought.
