Fuel costs of a penny?

How far would you have to travel in an average 35mpg car before the costs of extra fuel from carrying a standard GBP 1p coin canceled its worth?

A 1p coin weighs 3.56 grams. If you loaded your car with 10,000 coins they would weigh 35.6 kg. Maybe somebody could estimate the extra fuel consumption and resulting cost that this would incur and calculate the distance. Then divide by 10,000.

Assuming the car weighs 1000kg without the penny, it weighs 1000.00356kg with it.
So.. give or take .000356% of the fuel will be used transporting the penny.

If we say fuel costs �4/gallon (about 88p/L), then each mile for the car costs 11.43p, and .00004p per mile for the penny, which gives you approx 25,000 miles before the extra weight costs you a penny.

Oh right, Thanks alot I was hoping that it was lower. I thought if u were for instance driving to the alps or a long distance that you might as well throw away a penny but obviously not

If your worried about it just have a crap before you drive, you will save more cash then.
