Thoughts on servis washing machines

I have just recently purchased a brand new servis washer. Whilst phoning around for someone to take my old washer away i got chatting to an engineer who told me about a rather alarming recent case he had just had to write a report on. This involved a 18 month old servis washer. I just wanted to know peoples thoughts (good or bad) on Servis. Are they safe and reliable?

A fireman friend of mine told me that the most common items to catch fire in the home are the washing machine, television immersion heater - I can't really see Servis being less reliable than any other make - I stick to Whirlpool with which I've never had a problem with.
He also told me not to put the washing machine on and then go out as he has dealt with many a burnt house due to this - I personally have a smoke alarm fitted in my utility room directly above the dishwasherand washing machine.

I had a Servis washing machine for 8 years with no problems at all, it may still be working as I gave it away when we moved.
