Following on from the 'Is Prince William Handsome' thread, there were a couple of interesting points made about famous men with regards to their relative handsomeness.

It became clear that women can find a 'quirky' looking man very attractive, but let's turn this around. Are there any famous women who aren't classically beautiful, but whom people think of very attractive.

Is there such a thing as a 'female Jack Black'?

i would have to say Barbara Streisand for unclassical beauty.
See that depends, if we are talking long term then it would definitely be plain & funny over gorgeous & simple. I like to be challenged/occupied physically & mentally. But for one night only Id settle for what I can get!!
I think the guys will want it both ways... they wouldn't settle for someone just because they are funny and not that attractive! Men aren't wired that way!
I suppose it is a bit similar to women who want their men to be Mr Nice guys in the long term but are attracted to the wilder riskier unreliable types for the short term thrill.
I'd like to think I'm pretty and clever and amusing!

In my opinion and experience I believe that some guys feel threatened or intimidated by clever and/ or amusing women and that's why they go down the safer bimbo route. They can feel dominant then.
what do guys think of zoe wanamaker (my family) and juliet stevenson ( truly madly deeply) ?

I've always thought that Zoe Wanamaker has an odd face, but a really attractive voice.

I know that sounds a bit twee, but honest...women with great voices are by default, attractive:

Joanna Lumley
Zoe Wanamaker
Mariella Frostrup
Lisa L'Anson

There is no male equivalent.

Trevor Eve has a great voice. I love him.

And Robert Stephens had a brilliant voice.

Trevour Eve does have nice voice...only from watching waking the dead! His character has an aura that i myself and im sure other ladies could find quite attractive..same with Pierce brosnan...must be beacause they are a bit smooth? As is Shaun Connery...he isnt anything special to look at but the voice makes him special.

I definately think an accent or the way some poeople speak could be attractive...look at Honey in Eastenders...she comes accross as thick as two short planks in the words she uses but some men like that dippiness?

I also think colin firth (mr darcy & Bridget jones) is dishy..yes he is good looking but he comes across as intelligent which makes himself more so.

if i was a man i could see why angelina jolie would be attractive as she is not stereotypical hollywood in some ways and her looks are rather unusual.
Cameron diaz could be a jack black?
i thinking some people are missing the point with jack black.

its not about his comedy - and cameron diaz used to be a model! ...though she does have a somewhat quirky look, she is clearly pretty.
kathy burke is not known to have lots of blokes who are 'strangely attracted' to her.
she does not have a quirky beauty she just isn't pretty.

the point was more about the fact his looks really shouldn't 'work' but some how it just does, as many find him attractive.

he is overweight, slobby, manic and has a monobrow but has a nice face and actually looks better now than he did when he was young and slim - which is why he has a quirky attraction.

i also don't understand how rachel weisz or angelina jolie are 'quirky' - they both have a very classically pretty face.
I like odd little things like squints, overbites, and gaps in front teeth (a la Madonna). Eve Myles, who plays Gwen Taylor in Torchwood, I think is gorgeous and she has both the teeth things - overbite AND the gap! Lovely. Who really makes me go seriously weak and gooey right now is Ruth Wilson, who plays the title role in the recent BBC series of Jane Eyre. She has an overbite, a sticky-out top lip and looks really cross - she has "angry" eyebrows that give her a sort of scowl. I love all those quirks. I really do feel overcome when I watch her on screen - but here's the thing about this notion of 'plain' or 'beautiful'. As befits the character of Jane Eyre, Ruth Wilson would I'm sure be considered 'plain' by most people. But while I accept she fits that accepted ideal, to me she is utterly, utterly, genuinely beautiful.

About the plain/funny vs beautiful/dull thing, plain but funny for me every time. I'm hoping Rubyrose was joking when she suggested we men aren't hardwired to think that! (Or, at least, perhaps the men SHE knows aren't).

Dull, unfunny people, male or female, are one of the biggest turn-offs.
