I am, once again, looking for help for Mr Elderly. Could anyone please explain the *6 down in this weeks Azed. and let me know if there are any notes to the puzzle. I would be grateful for any information.
6D is 'inebriant', a straight definition of the clue, 'intoxicating'. I get the crossword from the website rather than the paper and there were no instructions there, nor could I get a proper printable version. There frequently seems to be something wrong with Guardian/Observer crosswords online!
Usually, when there is a simple definition like this, it means you have to provide a clue that gets the same answer but is not just a definition, Sorry I can't be of more help.
I too get the crossword on line and like you could not find what mr 'e' was asking me so that is why I asked for your help. As usual you came to his aid. Thanks very much
mrs elderly
As Quizmonster said, this is the monthly special where you have to send in a clue to the asterisked answer as well as your finished puzzle (to the Oxford address, not the London one). The lack of instructions does not help.
ont-ice,
Sorry for delay in answering you but I have only just seen your posting
I subscribe for my husband to 'Guardian Unlimited' on line. It cost 25. a year subscription and enables you access to all Guardian and Sunday Observer crosswords. I hope this helps, if not let me know and I will try and help more if I can. Good luck.
Hi Elderly
Don't worry about the delay. I am never on the site at the same time as most folks anyway.
I took a look at the Guardian site and they offered a 'sample crossword' which I did. It was really very easy. I'm more interested in the azed one that you do, but don't know anything about it and don't really want to subscribe - what with the exchange rate etc., - if I don't know what I'm going to get.
Thanks for your help. Sleep well. Regards to Mr. Elderly.
Ont-ice. If you would like I could email you this weeks Azed for you to try, just let me know. Azed is actually in the Sunday Observer which is included in GU. Best wishes.
I'm staring at it. Have so far gotten two answers. Will you please give me a couple of answers - doesn't matter which ones. It might start me off or help me figure out the thinking of the setter.
Is the crossword a mix of cryptic, hidden clues and straightforward ones?
ont-ice I don't do the xwords, my husband does. He is not very well and does not use the computer so I do all his requests for him.
No problem, he has gone to bed at the moment but I will ask him in the morning and get you going. You can always email me if you wish.
Good luck,
elderly
