yes I agree it is much older than the 70s, I think it used to be on Junior choice with Ed Stewart, and it was an old song in those days.

I remember that well, even though the only place I ever heard it was on Junior Choice rather too many years ago. I think it came out in 1962 (which predates me, before the smartassed comments fly in). One thing I learnt today while Googling this one is that Barry McGuire, who had a one-hit wonder with the very fine Eve Of Destruction, was a member of the New Christy Minstrels who were the performers of Three Wheels On My Wagon. There used to be a cartoon shown either on BBC or ITV and occasionally played during the childrens hour featuring this song.i always wanted the cherokees to get them to be quite honest. ...and ed stewart was a radio 1 dj who hosted junior choice.he looked a bit like vernon kay oddly enough.
