Wireless keyboard not working in games

I have a wireless keyboard and mouse, which work fine. but as soon as i start a game (ie Halo or Enter the Matrix) they stop working. The batteries are fresh, and all drivers are installed. im using XP home, directX 9.0c

maybe its not a game that you can play with a keyboard. you may need a joystick or something
