What to do when too much chilli in the soup?
11 Answers
I accidentally added about a dessert spoonful of chilli powder to my soup thinking it was coriander. I have tried adding milk, yoghurt and a second lot of soup with no seasoning to cool the soup down but it is still very hot. Any more suggestions as to what I can do to make it edible?

You didn't tell us what kind of soup it is - is it one that you could serve some of it over rice or pasta of some kind or put some potatoes in? Maybe just use it for a sauce instead of a soup?:)

It was just common or garden vegetable soup which I usually cheer up by adding powdered cumin and coriander to in order to make it more interesting. However, I had decanted both some coriander and some chilli powder into similar containers and so lavishly sprinked what I thought was coriander only to find it was the chilli powder!
If I added some more thickening e.g. potatoes and possibly some more tomatoes and tomato paste I could use it as a sauce on pasta or similar. However, I think the mushroom soup and coconut milk would both make it more interesting and less hot!
