BIOS update problem

I'm trying to update the BIOS on my computer using the ASUS update that is on the set up disc that comes with the motherboard (A7V8X). When it searches the ASUS site, it says it has detected an upgrade. Yet when I click on the update button a box comes up saying it can't find it on the remote server !!??
Any ideas what I can do ?
( This is the first time I've tried to update them by the way )

Firstly, are you attempting to update the BIOS to rectify a problem which exists on your computer, or just for the sake of updating?

If it is for the latter reason then it is usually prudent (especially when dealing with PCs) to keep in mind the adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". If the BIOS update fails for any reason it is possible to kill your machine.

If you are attempting to alleviate a problem then you can download the latest revision of your BIOS from the ASUS website...

Kempie is giving you good advice..Loads of people "flash" the BIOS when they aren't sure of what theyr'e doing..A "flash " gone wrong makes for big problems if you don't follow the rules...Firstly ...check to see just what the new updated BIOS offers over your current one...sometimes the updates are very ..very minor and won't make any major improvement..If you are missing out on some major issue...Go ahead...follow the instructions "to the letter" exactly and backup your bios settings before you press any wrong buttons...Regards Ed

The reason i'm trying to update them is I have installed a 128mb Radeon 9600 graphics card which seems to work fine on most things, except when I try to play a game. The screen goes blank and then comes up with "No Signal". I have Googled the problem and found someone who had problems with this graphics card on the same motherboard which he managed to rectify by updating the BIOS.
Should I just be looking for an update for my current BIOS 1002, or should I be looking to update to BIOS 1006 or 1007?
I need to play my games !!! Help !!

I cannot confirm that updating your BIOS will solve the problem you mention, however your current version (1002) is indeed very old. I had an A7V8X mobo about 3 or so years ago which shipped with 1007. The current version offered for download is 1014 (although 1015 also appears to exist).

Be aware that not all versions of the BIOS are compatible with every A7V8X mobo - there is a retail version of size 512k, which is larger than the OEM version of 256k. The type of mobo you have will determine which size BIOS you require (most of the revisions produced by ASUS are of 512k).

It looks like you may be using an old version of ASUS LiveUpdate (although I seem to recall the program should check for updated versions of itself). If so, you can download v.7.09.02 here which *should* allow you to automatically update the BIOS.

Or you can manually update using the downloads from the BIOS and BIOS-Utilities links found on the ASUS website using the link in my first post.

Been offline with a problem of my own and a faulty router!! .Read kempies last reply and he's giving you good sensible advice..Follow his tips and you might get it sorted.The reason your Radeon "works o/k on most things" is because it isn't really called to perform and pump the pixels until it meets the demands of a game you are running. Having said that..your card isn't capable of running the latest game requirements..so bear in mind..any slow frame rates may be due to your cards processing power and not your bios...Good Luck !!
