internet connection sharing

I have another problem I got two laptops & both are supposed to be connected to the wireless adsl router(netgear 834) but one gets connected easily & shows internet gateway icon as well but the other one though it says connected & excellent signal strenght but I cant get on the internet plus it doesnt show internet gateway icon? any solution?.

yes its enabled? but even if i turn it off still cant get on the internet ?

are you connecting your modem to your router, and then the router separately to both laptop 1 and laptop 2 (i.e., two cables coming from the router, one to laptop 1, and the other to laptop 2)?

I got Netgear 834 wireless router It's got built in modem. So I just put my wireless modem on and try to connect first laptop gets connected automatically and I can use internet but the second one though it shows its connected and signal strength is excellent but I cant get on the internet. I was wondering if its got something to do with internet gateway.,but how to put it on?

Turn off the firewall (temporarily) on the second laptop - something is stopping it, and the firewall is usually the culprit.

Thanks Ethel. Yeah I tried and it worked but sometimes it works with anitivirus on and sometimes it doesn't. My 2nd laptop works fine with antivirus on, I can get on the internet easily. And there is another thing, on my 1st laptop I can see that icon ''internet gateway'' but not on my 2nd laptop I don't why? how can I put internet gateway on, on my 2nd computer?

sounds daft, but recently Google toolbar has been prohibiting connections to the net, (dont ask why, i dunno) so i had to go into IE then tools the manage add-ons and disable the google toolbar, then delete the temporary internet files, came on first time. One of those weird erm ok its fixed moments.

you need to set up ip addresses on both laptops so there is no conflict can run through it with you [email protected]

Thanks mrjonnyevo, yeah I have tried that actually the problem is what I think is my anti virus program I have brought internet zone security down to medium and I have also changed netbios setting in wireless networks I have set it to default and restarted my laptop its , earlier my laptop was configured for ad-hoc(ICS) connection.
But folks I still dont see ''internet gateway'' icon on my 2nd laptop. Is there any software which can control wireless networking apart from window XP? I have one installed on my dell laptop thats why I think I never had any problem with that laptop.
