I've been bumped while parked - don't know when or where. Do I need to report it to the police?

Really hacked off - someone has damaged the bumper on my car. Since it's a big plastic wraparound, it's a real pain and is probably going to cost a pretty penny to get sorted. That's if I can even find a new bumper.

Sorry - venting there. Anyway, do I have to tell the cops?

Normally you only have to tell the police if you want to, and even then it is normally just to get an incident number so you can claim on insurance.
Your insurance company might not require one for such a small amount - we had a similar thing and it was repaired without question.
The police are not going to do anything much anyway....

Don't forget that you will have to declare it to the insurance company, even if you don't claim.

They have been known to refuse to pay on a claim when a previous minor incident has not been mentioned.

Solarjunkie is correct your legally obliged to report it to the insurance company. Thing is how are they going to find out.

I think if you have an accident on a public road your supposed to report it to the police but if it happened in a car park or what ever it's not a problem.

Somebody hit me in a car park just before christmas and did �700 or damage. I didn't report it to the police and the insurance company never mentioned it.

We had exactly the same thing happpen to us at a shopping outlet smashing the rear light.
A kindly person took the registration number of the car that bumped us, leaving their telephone number etc, for contact. We reported it to the police but they weren't interested at all and we heared no more. We just had to foot the bill to save our no claims.
