2f8h is supposed to be reserved for com2 (normally) The plugs on floppies can some times. Be plugged in backwards. If the floppy light is continuosly on reverse the plug. Other than what I have stated. I would add only. Tho check all wire plugs and connections. You may have bumped someting loose.
Good Luck
Thx Astron but i have done a complete physical check and a BIOS check and all is well there. I even pluged the drive into my mom's computer and it works ok. One tech site said to go into system device manager and remove it then windows will recognize and reiinstall it and driver on reboot but that hasnt helped either. I'm at a total loss!

There is one basic rule when working on a PC, if you do something and find that something else doesn't work, return it to the state it was when everything was ok and start again.
Regarding the fdd, make sure both ends of the data cable are in correctly, if necessary, take the drive out of the case and try it, when it works, put it back.
Thx to all you ppl that tried to help but ive been the victim of a intermittant floppy drive failure. First I put it in my mom's comp and it worked so i assumed the prob was in my comp. After a week of fiddling and cursing i put my mom's floppy into my comp and it worked fine! Grrr! Put mine back in hers and NOW it doesnt work! Oh well! Thx again anyways ppl! ~Jim
