i watch it if i am in the house and theres nothing much else on and i have nothing much else to do.

it is not a highlight of my day, nor do i avidly follow it, or care if i miss it - but i do find it hilarious, and i like watching eejits making twarts of themselves and destroying their already failing careers.

people-watching is something we all do and is a great pastime - like in pubs, cafes, parks etc - this is just that on a closer, more intense scale.

i find it interesting to watch the interactions between people and how people twist and turn in every day life in the most mundane things, how they edit the truth to suit them, how they over react, lie, cheat, misunderstand, show affection etc etc- just general human behaviour.

we often only see people when they are in 'social' mode and only see the side of them they wish us to see -
with bb, we get to see so many sides to one person, many that would usually be hidden in polite company - this is something that never fails to amaze me.

but i guess if you have no interest if general human behaviour then i can understand why something like this would bore you rigid.
however i am very interested in human behaviour - and quite simply that is why i watch it.

i understand the point about tv 'dumbing down', but since when has tv been simply an intellectual pursuit?

most people watch tv to escape, enjoy and to educate - TV land is a big place and there is room for all aspects of what people want to watch.

most people don't want to forced to learn and concentrate every single time they turn the tv on, they want a choice depending on their mood.

you do have a choice
This is broadcasting brilliance !!

Tonight's press conference has been banned, the public have been excluded from the exclusion ceremony lest they attack Jade Goodey, oh dearie dearie ffs !!!! I for one will watch tonight for the first time ever just because of the fuss. Give the producer a bonus.

I imagine Gordon Brown will have to make a public apology to India, possibly financial reparations, and of course Shipface will have to appear in the next honours list.

Britain, it's TOO LATE MATE. Reverse racism and political correctness has done for you.

Well put Joko.

Joko - Take your point about people watching. Well said. Something I love doing too. However I would argue that having a load of cameras in your face 24/7 would not make you act natural as you know you're being watched. Everyone is familiar with the concept of BB and the fact that i can make 'stars' out of you so people on it will play the game (celebrity or otherwise). I think you'll rarely see something on there that the person does not want you to see. It's a perverse hall of mirrors.

Also, TV dumbing down... No, we don't always watch TV for intellectual stimulation. Same way we don't always read to learn something. Sometimes we want to watch or read trash. But there is too much trash on now. And my issue with BB is that I have four channels that appear to be devoted to it. Yes, of course I switch over and I have a choice but it's saturation. (And it's in the newspapers I read and on the radio when I listen to it.... It's just everywhere).

It seems to me lately that if you are not interested in BB or the latest American dross then TV doesn't seem to cater much for you. But that said, you're right, I do have a choice.... And by God do I read a lot ;0)
