Licence revoked on medical grounds

Hi,

I've just found out that my licence will be revoked in a few days time for medical reasons (brain surgery).
My Dr & Specialist say that I'm recovered & perfectly fit to drive.
This seems to contravein the DVLAs own guidlines (Medical Standards of Fitness to Drive) which states "when recovered from surgery" which I am.

Can anybody tell me if it's worth attempting to appeal this or are these blanket rules usually set in stone?

Appeal now, Richard Hammond was not allowed to drive after his brain injury but he is now back on the road driving his Car & Motorbike.
