Lightbulbs outside

We have an outside lamp by our front door which is not covered but is in a sealed unit. We are continually having to replace the bulb in it, ie every 3-4 weeks!! Should we be using a special bulb?

Try long-life bulb (as these run cooler than ordinary ones) and put a purpose-made hard plastic housing around it (to keep it dry- possibly water penetration caused problems).

Im sure lightbulb these days are made not to last, i had the same problem got sick to death of changing it, so i decided to buy one of those energy saving bulbs just to try not the very small fluorescence type but quite a large round one, i think it cost me around �7 i have just change it after 2 years and i leave it on all night, when you first switch it on it will be very dull but as it hots up it will become brighter

Or stop using cheap bulbs ie. 10 bulbs for 60pence at the local supermarket.
As Nether says go for the long life ones or the energy saving fluorescent type.

They're not cheap bulbs. Don't judge people by your own standards!

That wasn't very nice. Some good bargains to be had in the local pound shop.
Sounds as though you may have a faulty rubber gasket seal that's letting water or maybe just condensation into the electrics.

No need to be nasty - I'm never out of the pound shop ! - you will also find that most of the replies on here are from experience which is why I answered your question.
Cheap bulbs are just one of the many easons bulbs blow too often.
You've hurt my feelings now :o(
