is this true about engagement rings..

ive heard that a man is supposed to spend one months wages on the engagament ring - my boyfriend says this is ridiculous and im making it up, im sure ive heard this, has anyone else? if it isnt, what is the rule of spending?if any!

Although he does know which rings I do prefer and I have guided him to the less ridiculously expensive ones! Luckily I have long thin fingers so a HUGE rock would just look comical on my lil fingers!

hehe im not planning on getting married yet! i suppose i sounded like a gold digger! ha! no, it just came up in conversation and i wanted to prove that there was a tradition cos he didnt believe me! i would be happy with anything as well, the shock that he had actually asked me would be the main thing in my mind!! hehe! :0)
I just got engaged an my man spend 400 on the ring, which was much more than I expected!!! I think it's important to spend a little i.e. a couple hundred, because it's a commitment and it's to show how much your partner means, but at the same time there's no need to go over board. The extra grand he earns per month would be much better spent on my wedding dress lol.
