A few weeks ago there was a programme on BBC2 on a Saturday night, ( 4 in total ) and it was stated that when a lead singer sings , the backing music is very slightly behind. Why is this?

sound travels at 330 metres per second. If teh musicians are 3 metres behind the sound takes around 1 hundredth of a second to reach them. then it takes time for them to react to the sound and try to keep up with the singer. Not sure but could be.

Thanks for that, Factor 30, but I think it,s more of a technique used by the singer rather than the technical answer that you gave.
