Why not? What happens? I know ive moaned about earache all day but when my son goes to bed i would like a glass or 2 of wine. I feel that this may help to chill me out and ease my pain a bit. I took 2 anti-biotic (penicillin) at about 1pm and nothing since. Will it harm me to drink the wine? I've never known why you aren't allowed to drink on anti-biotics.

Thanks

Don't know about the others but the fact that you are asking questions but taking no notice of the answers makes me doubt you.

how do you mean panicbutton?
Metronidazole, cephamandole and oral ketoconazole are the main antibiotics you should not drink whilst taking. A couple of glasses of wine whilst on Penicillin should be ok, I would be more concerned about what painkillers you are taking that may interact badly
there is no chemical interaction between penicillin and alcohol, though your stomach will be slightly more sensitive with the antibiotic and the alcohol may further exacerbate this.

You asked for advice.

Several people said not to put olive oil in your ear if you might have an infection, and to consult a doctor.

You didn't reply to them, but say you did it anyway.

You make a farcical comment about a doctor giving you antibiotics for a cold.

Something doesn't ring true!

Thank you alijangra and iggyB. xx

Panicbutton, i don't know what your problem is but I am not the sort of person to lie about having earache! Erm, why?

I had already done the olive oil thing before i looked back on answerbank to tell me not to do it. Anything else you would like to know? Regarding my 'farcical' comment? Yes, my doctor gave me anti-biotics for the cold/blocked ear/sore throat, believe it or not!

I very much appreciate everyone's replies and I apologise profusely for not replying to each and every one. I hope I have not offended anyone. (Apart from panicbutton, who i couldn't give a t*ss if i have offended! Quite frankly, i am offended by such an aggressive post! There is no need for it in my opinion.

Thank you.

hi there.just to say I have finally recovered from an ear infection after 3 weeks.I missed new year because of it, so i did have some wine last week while on penicillin.if it doesnt say on your pill bottle it's usually fine.Only certain antibiotics dont go with alchohol as another poster said.if you are on painkillers such as co-codamol for instance, dont drink, your liver will be under enough pressure!otherwise, a few glasses wont hurt and might cheer you up.know what you're going through, beleive me!

Sorry to hear (lol! hear!!) about your New Year Prattler. It is really nasty at the best of times but New Year! Poor you. Glad you are feeling better now though. No strong pain-killers, just some nurofen about 1pmish. Hope mine doesn't last 3 weeks! Youch!
i thought you said you was on antibiotics and took them at 1 . ?
Question Author
I took 2 anti-biotics at 1pm and 2 nurofen migraine relief (it's all i had painkiller-wise) also at 1pm.

ok sorry just watch what you take and drink .hope your ear is better soon and if you go out in cold wear a hat to keep ear warm
Question Author
Thanks sleepyj. I had a bobble hat on before when my dad called round! I was lying on the sofa with it on and I think he thought i had gone mad until I explained myself!

I've decided against the wine now because I don't want to feel worse in the morning for the sake of relaxing now. I will have a nice cup of camomile tea & honey instead.

xx
snap i have just had that tea nice
I owe you an apology Sair.

There has been a problem here recently of people making things up to create false discussions, but I realise now I was mistaken in thinking you were doing so.

My query about the antibiotics was that a doctor would never give them to cure a cold, as that is viral, and so anti bacterial drugs have no effect. They are positively discouraged from handing them out, as over use is making them less effective.

However they might give them for a bacterial infection following a viral illness. This is presumably what he or she did, for your sore throat and ear infection.

This confirms however that the olive oil treatment will probably have no effect. That is to soften and shift ear wax outside the eardrum. What you are suffering would be pressure from an infection behind the eardrum.

I apologise for mistakenly doubting you, and I hope your discomfort eases soon.

Thank you for your apology panic button. I appreciate it.

I realise lot's of people use AB as a form of amusement for themselves by making things up or posting abusive comments.

I have used AB for a few years now and I very much value it's serious members and the advice and support I have gained from coming on here. I also like to try and help others and join in discussions and ideas when I can.

Answer Bank is a very important website to me at the moment as some of my problems cannot be discussed with family and friends. Therefore, I would hate for people to think i had been abusing it's members and their opinions.

Thank you once again.
