Locking

It would be quite a good idea if the locking thread facility actually worked. I've tried to lock a thread which has gone rather over the edge, and it says it is locked, yet I can still post.

If I post a question then as well as being able to rate the responses and award stars then I'm also able to click on a link which indicates that the question has now been fully answered. The post here indicates that clicking on this link doesn't stop others from adding new posts to an already answered question.

Stevie is correct. I clicked the option to stop any more answers, but it does not appear to stop anyone answering.

Waldo, all that does is stop the e-mail notifications.

Better still would be the ability to remove a thread altogether. Twas not your fault, so you should have the right to remove it. Seems that a number of people don't know when to stop. I'm sticking to amusing quips and quizzes, me... ;-)

I agree it should be possible to stop further answers to a thread when it has been fully answered and also to delete a thread if the answers are, as you say, over the edge.

Probably wrong but I thought the locking thing meant that any further responses wouldn't be mailed to person who had set the question, but thread was still open for discussion?

brawburd, you're right - I assumed it meant it 'response from others' not 'responses notified to you', you see!

It would be wrong to allow a questionner to remove an entire thread. It should remain in the archives so that new mwmbers can stuble across it and accumulate their agglomerated mass of wisdom.
