With funny stories and things that have happened, my boyfriend claims them. Lets say I done something silly once :o) and my boyfriend gave me a look as if to say "that was a bit daft," he then 2 months later claims that it was him that done it when telling one of his friends. It irritates me. He tells the story so much that i actually believe that he believes that it was him that done it, the "silly" thing. This happens a lot!

No offense, pinkie, and you did ask for opinions, but your boyf sounds very sad if he needs to nick other ppl's humerous stories! Is his life that boring? He obviously has a desperate need to have 'good crack' as well, but there's no harm in telling a story without claiming it as your own.. Think it indicates low self esteem and confidence. Personally if I heard him recounted something and claiming it happened to him, I'd say 'think you'll find actually that happened to me, don't you remember you freak?' or words to that effect.
I notiiced my mate do that that to me the other day actually!!!! I was having a sarcastic go at my dog (!!!). It was all quite funny! But anyways, a few days later me and my mate were telling another mate about it, and my mate said that it was her having a go at the dog!!! I didnt say anything to her, and i have only noticed her do it a few times, but still, i was a bit put out!
I would to start with make a light hearted laugh, and say " Darling, you're getting muddled - it was me that....... blah blah"
Then if he keeps bluffing on I woudl give him a look that says " You know bloody well you're lying".
Then next time if he does it I would let him carry on and wait till we were alone and ask him why he pretendedit was him.
Bloody men! lol

My ex did that. He also used to edit the story to suit the audience as well. It grated me more that he actually believed the incident happened involving HIM!
I think it comes from them needing to be the centre of attention and anything that they consider could be funny they steal and relay it to others. It's a very shallow thing to do. And it also means he's more worried about what others think of him than what you think of him. Consider that.

its worse when they actually begin to recount the story back to you, forgetting it was you who told them in the first place!!
or even someone else entirely comes and starts to tell you it almost word for word!
i used to mimic a few lines of a character in a sitcom, only occasionally, when the situation arose, and particularly to this one guy, paul, because he seemed to find it hilarious. weeks later i did it to some other people and they thought i was mimicking paul!!!! i had to explain the character and that i had introduced it to paul...
