laptop to tv

i have a compaq presario v2000 laptop and i want to know.
how to connect my laptop to my tv if i have the s video cable, because it won't show anything on the tv screen?
Is something esle that i have to do?

Well. obviously you need to use the TV remote to select the S-Video input! You may also need to press a combination of keys on the laptop to send the output to the S-Video out, as well. It should tell you this in the manual.
