I hoover and dust regularly. However my husband has an office in our spare bedroom and there are so many cables for his computer and accessories that it is awkward to get round them all. Today I noticed that a section of the carpet was looking worn which was odd because it is not old and it was right on the edge of a unit. I moved the unit and find even more bald places. Looking it up on the internet I am mortified to find it is a house mite causing it. I have pulled everthing out, hoovered, dusted, washed down, changed all the bedding. Sprayed some flee spray round (as we have two dogs and this was the only chemical spray I could find). How do I get rid of them and stop any more of my carpet dissappearing. It is so gross .
Actually, you've probably done all you can do to kill them ; either use moth balls which stink, or use cedar wood balls which don't which will keep them away from another attack.
House mites eating a carpet ?
Correct me if i'm wrong but aren't house mites microscopic ? I know they infest everywhere and generally eat dead skin cells but I've never heard of them having a go at a good axminster - would you please enlighten me as to where on the net you found the info ?
Fleas of the dog infesting the carpet and chewing it up I can understand but not housemites - I hope they dont go for my wooden flooring.
I am having trouble finding the web page but it was definately there and I shall keep trying. I know all house have dust mites but I did not realise they damaged carpets. I will find it because it has to be there somewhere.
Sorry you are right! I was in such a state at seeing the bare patches and the thought of something crawly that I didn't read it properly. Now I don't understand if it was a moth, how it got underneath a unit. It was the stand for an aquarium. There was only about and inch gap underneath.
I would just like to say that although I have flea spray in my house as a preventative measure, my dogs do not have fleas so I knew it was not that. Rest assured woodchopper, they will not attack you wood floor. You probably have the right idea. I have never liked carpets and I like them even less now.
