I think the console was originally going to be the "nintendo revolution" but that was thought to be a bit 'un-nintendo'. So they changed it a to a cutesy name that means nothing

Revolution was just the work-in-progress codename until they came up with something else.

You have to admit that it's bit more imaginative than Playstation 3 or XBox 360.
