Agism: based upon medical data?

The understanding of the human brain may be some of the literati's reasoning for basing an agist attitude towards artists. Being over the hill could be changed if the right drugs were ingested; ie Viagra, DHEA, and levoxil etc? Could aging hippies live better chemically and find thier natual way again?

Frankly I have nothing but contempt for hippies, I would rather remain in society and change it for the better, than disengage looking out purely for number one. Thatcherism owes alot to the hippy movement, bizarre as it sounds. So in anwer to the question which I seem to have totally lost on this tangent no drugs don't work, a certain naivety is essential to produce art I think cynicism drys the soul, or something like that...

What makes you say that "we" are ageist towards artists?

I thought the Turner Prize was based upon the age of the artist; he/she must be under 50 and have an exhibit which sponsors the artist for the list. Most recent Grayson Perry.

I think drugs or herbs come in foods and DHEA is produced naturaly. As for the contempt for a lot who would drop out of society is not new. Research the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove. To each their own.

The age restriction on Turner prize entrants is, I think, due to the view that older artists are more likely to be well-established and in less need of a career boost. I don't think it has anything to do with the view that older artists are "over the hill".

If the older artists are not making money by 50 they're heads should be cut off, as well as restricted from winning anything; losers!

I might be nice if people who swear were not rebuked severely and they who rebuke use soap and water to wash wounds and not dirty mouths. We can wash dirty mouths, how can we clean dirty minds? Off with their heads?

It is nice to have a wise elder in the village, so don't go cutting them out of the vital areas just because you found a study that said you should. There needs to be a balance of old and young. The young should date the old to serve them better.
