Am I able to just use normal wooden skewers when roasting some chicken & vegetable kebabs in the oven?

I used some wooden ones just last week to roast a chicken and vegetable kebab. I just put the bits I wanted on the skewer, brushed a thin coat of vegetable oil over them, popped them on a baking tray and put them in the oven. The sticks came out fine. I wouldn't recommend them under the grill though.

Thanks for that jellybean. Good job my grill ain't working...roasting it is then!!
Millions of Chinese do just that. One tip is to soak the skewers in water, (ice water's best), for half an hour or so before using them
I was going to say that putting the skewers in water first stops them burning...
