I have been asked to update a complicated workbook which has several linked spreadsheets containing formulas which link across different sheets.

When I input the data on the main spreadsheet it does not update on the linked sheets and I have to click on all related cells and go to the formula toolbar to confirm the formula before the cell updates.

Is there a way I can update the workbook to automatically update without clicking on every cell?

The workbook is not password protected so I don't understand why it does not update.

Any suggestions?

I am very rubbish at explaining things.....It's the same as doing a formula in the same sheet. If you are on sheet 2 and you need to add box 1a from sheet 1 to box 1a on sheet 2 you would use the same formula as if you were adding two cells together in sheet 2.

for example..where you want to add (or whatever) the cells together. You put '+' in the cell....click to page 1 (2,3 or4) and add the cell you want just the same way as adding a cell from the same page.

????? Am I making any sense or should I give up?

Hi, you are making sense and I understand what you mean but I am working on a workbook which was created by someone else and does not appear to have any problems but it does not update.

For example ... spreadsheet 1, cell A1, if I type a word into that cell and enter the value it should automatically update on spreadsheet 2 because the formula on spreadsheet 2 for cell A1 is =Sheet1!A1

But it does not update.

Any idea why?

F9 will update all calculations in all worksheets.

As my Accountant says.....check the simple things first....make sure the cell is being read as a number . Sometimes the little things go wrong.....
or text.....
