At 5.00 pm yesterday, I was able to connect my laptop to the Internet, through a wireless router, with no problem. When I came to do the same thing at 9.15 pm, it didn't work. I got a message saying it couldn't be done and the automatic investigation which the computer carried out suggested that there was a problem - this in spite of the fact that the computer said it was connected with an 'excellent' signal. I tried repairing the connection anyway, to no avail. Pinging the DNS address showed that the connection was fine - 4 packages returned. I tried disabling my firewall and antivirus (Kaspersky) but that didn't help, so I enabled them again. Our (wired) PC was fine. I was still having problems this morning. Here I am at 3.00 pm and suddenly I'm able to use the machine again. As far as I know, I haven't done anything - but presumably something must have happened. What?
i am not sure if i get your problem but, go into the router setup
page and check that in access restriction (or something like that) that time out its disabled.
it may be because you router is set to only allow your laptop on for a few hours a day.
Thanks Bubbles, but that isn't the problem. What's more, I can ping the router, the DNS and yahoo, google and you name it. It's just that I keep getting this intermittent problem - "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" - even when it could ping that page. I'm foxed!
The lady's done it again! Tefler - my partner - constantly forgets to sign in and out as herself. That's why people keep on getting confused when one ABer asks a question and quite another responds to any replies. I'm going to have to stop allowing her to play with the computer, I'm afraid!
