Just wondering if any other ABers have had the above illness. How long did you have it for? How severe was it? Has there been any lasting effects on your health?
i had this when i was back in college at 18 years old. I was very bad with it, constant tiredness etc but was admitted to hospital for 2 weeks as i could not eat and had to be placed on a drip. It had caused me to have severe mouth ulcers and they were all down my throat. Not nice!
The Glandular fever lasted for about 3 months in all.
The most annoying thing is that most people just thought i was lazy at first due the constant tiredness!
I had it when I was about 17. I had extreme tiredness, some days literally couldn't walk across the room, worst was not getting diagnosed for several months and the amount of college I missed during A levels. When I was finally diagnosed I was signed off for over a month and it took time to get my energy levels back, but I don't think it had any lasting effects on me, apart from failing my A levels!!
i had it for about a month. it was horrible, but at least you can only get it once ( i think ).it was pretty bad, i couldnt eat at all, and barely drink, but i managed.
i havent had any problems at all since i had it few years ago
xxxxx
I had it when I was 20 and had a severe case, also in hospital. It affected my throat (very bad infection) and I was on morphine and drips for a week. I went back to work too soon (boss thought I was just faking it), had a relapse within 2 days (then the boss believed me!) and was off for three months in total.
To this day, whenever I get run down or tired, I get bad throat infections, but they seem to be lessening in inteisty the older I get (I'm now 28)
I had it when I was anout 14, I was bedridden, but not hospitalised, for about 6 weeks. I'm 38 now and whenever I get tired or run down the gland on the right side of my neck swells up, gets hard and painful, so I know I'm getting sick.
Finally there are other people out there who had a bad case of GF. I had been feeling tired and had a bad headache on and off for about a month, I just thought I was getting over my previous stressful job. I kept pushing myself. In the end I had to go home from work as I had such a bad headache, I hurt all over and every time I yawned or took a deep breath I had pain in my stomach. Strange thing was I didn't have a sore throat thats why nobody thought it was GF for a start. I then developed Hepatitis and went yellow and thought I was dying (no seriously), it turns out hepatitis can be brought on by GF as in my case. Never had to go to hospital but never really returned to work and had to give up my job as it turned in to Post Viral Fatigue. When I ask others if they had GF they just say yes for a couple of weeks. I had it 18 months ago when I was 26 and although I don't wish it on anybody its nice to talk to others who have had the same experiences.
I had it when I was 18. Fairly serious - took about 6 weeks to get over but it left me with a sever Iron deficiancy so I was still tired all the time. I then had a variation of the mumps 2 years later! I'm now 23 and I'm fine, but I have to keep an eye on my iron levels if I am feeling run down or tired.
Hope you feel better soon. Take it easy and if you are not happy then consider changing doctors.
