ford escort lx,thumping sound after start

i had got ford escort lx 1998,s reg.1.8,when start in the morning ,it starts well ,but after nearly 2 or 3 sec. 2 thumping sounds comes from the front,then i switch off and again restart,then thier is no thumping sound,when i start while coming from work it has got same problem thumping 2 times then it becomes ok.what is the solution ?

During the initial time of thumps, have you just altered your fan in the car. Its just that I have been having the same problem with a 99 T plate escort and it seems directly related to the heating/fan controls somehow.
