if it is tigress, why female? else what is it?

the answer does appear to be Tigress ....

The female Tigress is larger and also (said to be) stronger, although I have never seen a Tiger and Tigress fighting!

Some Abers have expressed a doubt about the clue - since, such Abers state that a Tigress is not a 'species'.

if tripod is put in instead of trivet Tiglion fits which is a cross between a tiger and a lion but still not a species
most on here have gone with tigress we will haveto wait and see what next week brings in the way of answers

I believe that when the genus "Tigris" was first brought into the English language, it was spelt "tigress". Not a very good clue though.
