Scary films

Ive never actually seen a film that scares me to death, but want to. Spooky things tend to scare me more than gore. What do you suggest?

For a spooky film, I don't think you can beat the Blair Witch Project (Quiet at the back! I know not everyone likes it!), then there's Superstition (The Witch) which is probably a bit dated by now, Any of the Omens, Evil Dead (the first one). Unfortunately, I haven't seen a really scary film for absolutely ages now, and most modern fare is the same old thing being regurgitated over and over, although I do have a soft spot for Scream 1 and 2, House on Haunted Hill and Thirteen Ghosts.
Wow leonard - the first film that came into my head was 'La Cabina' also. I saw that film about 20 years ago and I still prop the telephone box door open with my foot if I'm unfortunate enough to have to use one! Also Les Diaboliques is heart-stoppingly scary (only the original though - not the American tosh with Sharon Stone!).
"The Omen" and "The Exorcist" both freaked me out, although admittedly I was far too young to be watching them. But, even now, I don't like to watch anything that dark or supernatural like. Horror films with people jumping out of cupboards or hiding in the back of cars are fine, but films like those two scare me.
I agree alldaysmith, different people have different freak leels. The first thing that came to my mind reading the question was the first Jaws film! Yes, I know! It wasn't the whole film, just the bit where the head pops out of the boat wreck. I actively recall its effect on me at the time! Can't think of a whole film that ever had that effect, but I think the head experience directed me away from scary films!
No no no you cant beat films like IT, House of 1000 Corpses or Texas Chainsaw Massacre for scary. Horror films arnt realy scary if youthink about it ive never seen a film that has lost me any sleap they are more gore than scare. Even old cheese like Friday the 13th and Halloween will have parts that will make you jump. Depends on your constitution i suppose, my sister cant even watch terminator 2 without leaving the room! lol
"Sani: Yes the original Japanese Ring O was very frightening....excellent film!

The original "Ring 0" ?
The only ring film that's been remade was the original Ringu. Ring 0 is the third installment in the Trilogy, Ring 0: Birthday, and is therefore the only film of that name, and nt purely original.
Also, it depends what scares you. You could watch Gaspar Noe's Irreversible and be frightened by the realism within it, or you could watch Salo (120 Days of Sodom) and be frightened by man's inhumanity to man, and hinted at potentials.
Most horror films don't scare me and are total pants. It all depends on what you find scarey really. I cannot stand porceline dolls - absolutely hate them so anything with them in will absolutely terrify me! A friend of mine had one of these dolls on the mantlepiece and whilst staying there she found it hilarious to keep changing its position when i wasn't looking!!! Freaked me out!
