New driving lesson requirements!?

is it true that you will soon have to have at least 100 hours of lessons before you can take your driving test? And if so does anyone know when its coming into force? Ive tried looking for information and cant find anything specific! Please help, I want to learn to drive before it comes into force! Thank you, Leanda

There are no plans to introduce a minimum number of hours driving tuition. The rumour was started after Stephen Ladyman gave an interview to The Times in which he indicated that the Department for Transport were examining the current requirements of the driving test to see if driving standards could be improved. This was picked up on by Simon Kimber, writing for The Slant, who suggested a minimum of 100 hours of on-road experience.

Even if a minimum number of hours was to be introduced, it would be highly unlikely that a figure of 100 hours would be chosen. Learner drivers currently pass after an average of 45 hours of professional tuition:
