The thing I want to know is when using the attachments on my upright hoover, there seems to be no suction. To the point where it's just not picking up, is there anyway of fixing this? The suction on the actual hoover part is fine it just seems to be the hose part of the hoover. I think this must be quite a common problem bacuse the same thing happened with my last hoover. Any help would be appreciated as i dont want to have to buy a new hoover.

You, or more correctly your Hoover, has a blockage in one of the pipes, hose or attachments that needs to be cleared.
stanleymans answer was the first I thought of, the only other thing might be an outlet for air on your attachment that needs to be closed, but it would still be sucking, only weakly.
When this happened to mine, it was due to stanleyman's option. I took the hose off, put it under the tap and ran water through it.

When this happened to my daughter's vac cleaner, she stripped it down & found a small blackboard sponge stuck up the pipe, behind the the foot pedal.

Good luck!

stuff a broom handle or such like up your tube!! works when my wife kills our hoover.
try putting some thing long and thin down the pipe because you could have something blocking it, if it is not that on a dyson for instance it has a little flap at the bottom where the hose goes into the hoover and you can flick it back and sometimes it is blocked there, but that is a dyson.
