i always wondered why the computer was invented if itwas going to coem to this situation right here and now ; all of the buisnesses r on line and you dont ened to elave your homes anymore unless you want to go outside and plant flowers or to go to the mailbox ect ect. you can even shop online. and for a small shipping fee it still would probley add up to being lower then the price for gas every week. what about the fact that the PCs r in homes now? one guy i chat with has his right in the liveing rooma dn he works all the time outside on cars and then he coems back to chat ect ect. he wants to put the PC in his shop because then he will already eb out there. see what the world is coemign to? i realize that every time someoen walks into the house they will see someone on the PC. now isnt that a shame? so ima sking you again "WHY was the computer REALLY invented for?"

The computer is just a machine to help us live our lives. Man has always developed tools and machines, from the earliest flint knives and horse-drawn vehicles through to space satellites and computers. But the golden rule has always been that man should keep control of the machine, and not let the machine control him. It is unfortunate that some people allow cars, computers or mobile phones to take over their lives; but blame the individuals, not the hardware.
By the way, thanks for asking that question. I realise that I've been on my laptop for a couple of hours, and am now going out for a walk!
Like most elements of modern life, computer use is about balance. I use a PC every day for work but steer clear of in on evening and weekends, preferring to go outside, spend time with my family and generally do other things. Some people take things too far, just like some do with eating, boozing, shopping, watching TV or playing video games and just about anything else.

Being online makes us relatively anonymous and therefore more able to express ourselves without fear of repercussion, something that most of us would be unwilling to do in "the real world".

PC use has a great deal to answer for and I have observed a marked decline in spelling, grammar, and handwriting in people I know are heavy "users" as well as a general lack of interpersonal skills.

Everything in moderation is what I say.

The straight answer to your question would be that computers were invented to perform complex calcualtions rapidly, accurately and repeatably and were first used in processes such as codebreaking, census taking and bookkeeping.
I think one of the major breakthroughs in computing came about during the war where they worked on Collosus and Enigma. So, oringially, computers were machines for code breaking.
They have amazing grammar and spell checkers so that when people write things down, they don't make mistakes.
