Yesterdays disruption due to snow!
Ok so I couldn't get to work yesterday, along with thousands of others! I did attempt to get in but after losing control of the car on a main dual carriageway I gave up and went home. All the staff that didn't turn in have now been told that they have to take the day as a holiday. Doesn't really affect me as I was prepared and had taken work home incase I didn't get in.
Some of the staff don't have any annual leave left!
Is this right?
Surely its better not to put their staff at risk!

Having made that choice, it is the duty of the staff member to then attend to do the work they are paid for. Those who choose to live that far from work where such problems may materialise, or take work that far from home, can have no complaints in these circumstances.
Thanks for all your answers. However, when I first started working for the company they were very local. The firm then relocated 14 miles away. Every member of staff stayed with them although it meant travelling to work! On Wednesday the staff didn't have a choice on whether they went to work or not, it was impossible to get there, along with thousands of other people. The company work a flexible working time system but there are certain hours when you have to be at work. Why not let the staff take the time as flexi time that they then have to make up?? I think they're being a bit harsh.
