Cassettes to CD?

If I get a cable with 'male' connections on both ends,can I plug one end into the back of my cassette player (the phones connection)and the other end into the front of my computer using the microphone connection and will I be able to transfer my music from cassette to CD??
Any help,guidance ,etc.??

It's specifically designed for the job and not too expensive. It's an American site but it gives you an idea!

Your method should work provided you have recording software on your computer but there is no guarantee of quality!

Did a bit more research.

Yes, your method will work and you can you can use the recorder built in to Windows to record your songs. This of course is the cheapest option but will result in the lowest quality.

If you have a soundcard with a 'Line-in' (check at back of PC), then follow this step by step guide:

I really recommend some USB hardware and some good software though - the results will considerbly better!

to do this with any level of quality, you will need a tape deck with Line Out phono sockets and a lead with 3.5mm jack plug on one end and 2 phono plugs at the other. You connect it to the PC Line In socket. Use nero wave editor to ceapture the casettes and away you go-.

incidentally, I'd suggest you keep on to the originals - you may need to do another copy later on if technology moves on and you want them in another future format, or you lose the hard drive... Note that cd-rs do die - i have some from 7 years ago which have deteriorated , and 20 year old tapes which play perfectly.

Thanks to all for your suggestions and help.I'm going to try a free download called "Audiograbber" in the first instance and probably sling the whole lot and got to the pub!!
