For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Winny is correct but this does not necessarily have to be 2 litres of 'straight' water, water combined in food can be included as well, see link below. Basically if you are thirsty then you have not had enough water, simple.

yes I watched that programme the truth about food last week. they were highlighting if you eat a healthy diet you should pretty much get all the water you need. fish for example is up to 75% water, a steak 65 % water and potato 75% water. of course you will drink if you are thirsty but is some myth about needing to drink 2.5pints. They told you where this came from but I cant remember. The also did a test on twins who were very careful normally to ensure they drank plenty water to help skin etc. For the test one of the girls was to not drink any extra liquid where as the other carried on as normal. There was no difference between their skin etc at the end of it.
