Hi, Can anyone explain to me why cats (and dogs come to think of it) move their head when watching something like a fly. Surely if they want to swat it, moving their head would alert their intended prey?
I thought of this question whilst watching my cat watching a fly with his head bobbing like the 'Churchill' dog on the telly. He looked so cute, but it made my head ache for him!

well they need to keep an eye on their prey. Their eyes only move so far and so they would need to move their head to follow. Have you ever noticed when you try to give a cat a treat or bit of food right in front of them they seem not to be able to see? And you have to actually point and tap the spot where the treat is before they see it.
