For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.It is legal tender but you will find that a lot of (particulary small) traders will view notes with suspicion that don't have "Bank of England" printed on them. For example, a lot of banks in Northern Ireland print their own notes which ARE legal tender and are imprinted with things like Ulster Bank.
Here we have the true value of Answerbank, two answers say it is legal, two answers say it isn't. They can't both be correct; they are insistent they are correct but they give no evidence.
In England & Wales the only notes which are legal tender are those issued by the Bank of England. In Scotland & Northern Ireland only one pound & two pound coins issued by the Bank of England are legal tender.
