Suggestions for a vegetarian diet
9 Answers
My nine year old daughter has announced that she wishes to be vegetarian and I was wondering if anyone could please give me suggestions for meals for her. I was a vegetarian for four and a half years in my teens and although I enjoyed a lot of what I ate , i'm not sure how appealling it would be to a nine year old. She does not wish to eat anything which contains animal fats or is meat based so what can I give her to eat which will be appealling to a young girl ? All helpful suggestions gratefully received x

I use the mince to make all the normal things like shepherds pie, chilli con carne, lasagne etc. The pork style and apple burgers are very tasty made into a takeaway style burger in a bun with salad etc. The lamb style grills are lovely stuffed in a pitta bread with salad and mix some natural yogurt and mint jelly together to make a tasty sauce to go on top. They sell fajitas style strips which obviously can be used for fajitas. The fillets and chunks you can use in a casserole, curry , stirfry etc The supermarkets sell bacon style rasher, roasts and garlic and herb breaded fillets even chicken style nuggets, they are constantly introducing new ranges. Asda do a very good vegetarian range including pies, mediterranean vegetable tarts and loads of veggie burger style crispbakes..
Skreecheeboy - The thing is though , I would know and i'd feel like such a rotter for lying to her :- )
Jules001 - Thank you for that , that was really helpful. I didn't realise that Quorn was so versatile. I guess that we could all have some as a family. I used to buy soya products but it's been a while and I didn't realise that Quorn could be purchased on it's own to make your own meals as opposed to shop bought ready meals containing Quorn. That's really good to know.
BBWCHATT - I did do a site search of veggie products but for some reason it kept bringing up an error script message so I wasn't able to see any of the previous questions on here about veggie food. Thanks for that link. It seems to be letting me in now. That is so odd ! I appreciate your links and as I said , it never occured to me that Quorn was available to purchase on it's own. I always assumed rather foolishly that it was contained in ready made meals. That just goes to show how out of touch I am with vegetarian food. Going back to eating meat has addled my brain ! I must admit that I quite fancy trying some of these products with my daughter , so thanks to all of you x

I was a veggie as well in my teens.
How about a nice veggie lasagne or other meat free pasta or rice and sauce dishes (although you could add veggie bacon bits) with mushrooms, courgettes, peppers, onion, sweetcorn etc... Veggie risottos too.
Homemade veggie soups like vegetable, leek and potato and watercress.
Roasted peppers stuffed with rice or couscous and mushrooms, courgette and onion.
Veggie stirfry with beansprouts, mange tout, baby sweetcorn etc...
Veggie casserole or stew or stroganoff.
Omelettes with veggie cheese, mushroom etc...
